Magash Darshi
The Last JediMagash Darshi is a Dathomiri ally whose clear-eyed concern for her people shapes her response to Jax Pavan’s dangerous search for knowledge. While Jax lies catatonic after opening the Sith Holocron, she feels the repercussions in the Force and considers what the knowledge might mean for Dathomir. When he recovers enough to speak with her, her perceptiveness helps him confront the personal temptation—and temporal paradox—bound up in what he has learned.
Local Stakes and the Singing Mountain Clan
As she paces the council hall below the Clan Mother’s chambers, Magash does not know what Jax is experiencing in his catatonia, but she can feel its effects through the Force. His condition makes the cost of his decision immediate: he had risked his life and the lives of others to pry knowledge from an artifact he knew carried dark energies. She understands his stated hope that the knowledge could save a friend and aid those opposing the Empire, yet she measures that broad purpose against the survival of her own people.
Magash recognizes that part of her wants the rest of the universe to matter less than the safety of her small corner of it. She is not, however, comforted by the possibility of simply remaining apart from galactic events. The Nightsisters and Nightbrothers have already brought Dathomir to the attention of the Sith, and she sees that exposure as irreversible. Her hope is therefore cautious and conditional: if Jax wakes, what he has learned might also benefit the Singing Mountain Clan. Her concern is neither an uncomplicated commitment to the wider struggle nor a belief that her people can stay untouched by it; she holds both the limits of her loyalty and the danger pressing on Dathomir in view.
Alliance with Jax Pavan
When awareness ripples through her, Magash turns toward the stairs and finds Jax standing at the top, regarding her solemnly. She is wary of what the knowledge he has assimilated may have done to him. Jax, in turn, thanks her for accompanying him to the Infinity Plain, helping him seek knowledge from the Sith Holocron, standing by him, and befriending him. His gratitude makes plain that her importance to him is not limited to practical assistance: he recognizes her companionship as part of what sustained him through the dangerous undertaking.
Later, Magash escorts Jax to the meditation chamber accorded to him and asks whether he truly fears misusing what he has learned. When he admits that the danger lies in being tempted, she identifies the temptation as undoing his mate’s death. Rather than accept the fear as an abstract warning, she follows its logic. If Jax changed the past, she reasons, he might never have needed to mourn his mate, rescue his friend, or acquire the dangerous knowledge in the first place. Her question leads directly to the contradiction: in that altered timeline, he would still possess the Holocron and might still acquire the knowledge. The exchange shows her testing the consequences of time manipulation through careful reasoning, even as Jax acknowledges that he does not yet understand how it works and may never fully do so.
Perception, Equality, and an Unresolved Future
Jax privately judges that Magash would make an outstanding Padawan, a response to the insight she displays rather than a role she claims for herself. She recognizes the paradox in his reasoning, but neither of them resolves the mechanics of altering time. Jax describes his mind as crowded with disjointed pieces that he must try to fit together; Magash does not pretend to supply an answer. She wishes him success and leaves him to the work of sorting what he has learned.
Their parting also changes the register of their relationship. Magash has continued to address him formally as Jedi; Jax asks her instead to use his name. She repeats Jax and bows before leaving, a gesture that treats him as her equal. The scene gives no assurance that the Holocron’s knowledge will save the Singing Mountain Clan or that Jax will master it. Its more immediate resolution is relational: amid uncertainty about the Force, time, and the consequences of dangerous knowledge, Magash and Jax meet one another with gratitude, candor, and respect.
